Man Dies In Aspen Hill Hit-And-Run; Cops Look For Driver In Crash

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County police are searching for a driver who they say fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident in Aspen Hill Tuesday morning.

Robert Lawrence, 62, of Silver Spring, was struck around 10 a.m. near the intersection of Bel Pre Road and London Lane, detectives said.

According to a preliminary investigation, Lawrence got out of his white box truck in the far right lane of westbound Bel Pre Road, just prior to London Lane. While on the driver's side, he was hit by a vehicle. A witness described it as a light-colored pickup truck.

Lawrence was rushed to a local hospital. He died three days later, on Friday, Aug. 14.

Authorities say they've obtained surveillance video of the striking vehicle — a two-door Ford F-250 or F-350 with a truck bed cover. They have released photos of the truck in hopes that the public can help identify the driver.
