MoCo Cop Sentenced For Assaulting Handcuffed Man: Reports
A Montgomery County police officer seen on video last year assaulting a suspect in custody was sentenced on Monday.
SILVER SPRING, MD — A Montgomery County cop seen on cellphone video last year assaulting a suspect in custody was sentenced Monday to two years' probation, according to multiple media outlets.
Police Officer Kevin Moris, 33, was filmed kneeing a man's head to the ground during a drug arrest in July 2019. It came at a time when residents and local politicians were raising questions about county police behavior and use-of-force policies. Late last year, a jury found Moris guilty of second-degree assault, but acquitted him of misconduct in office.
During his sentencing a Monday, Moris got his 90 days of jail time suspended by Circuit Court Judge Nelson Rupp. According to The Washington Post, Rupp spoke about Moris' "unblemished background" within the Montgomery County Police Department.

"There is no dispute that Officer Moris has had an unblemished background within the police department," Rupp said. "I haven't received any information that would suggest any history of any questionable behavior or conduct."
Moris is now a stay-at-home dad to his four children, according to WTOP.
