Not Your Average Joe's Celebrates Grand Opening in Silver Spring

Silver Spring nonprofits will be pleased to hear about the policy at Not Your Average Joe's.

Silver Spring, MD - Not Your Average Joe’s celebrated their grand opening with the Silver Spring community on Tuesday, July 12. The New England- based restaurant group invited neighboring businesses to a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception.

In other locations, the company takes great pride in working with their neighboring partners and Silver Spring is no different. CEO/President, Stephen Silverstein welcomed guests and began to talk on the importance of community to Not Your Average Joe’s, “You need us to help in any way, we can, through a donation or otherwise. We want to be your go to restaurant, so make sure you call on us, the answer is always yes. We guarantee you that!”

To show their appreciation for the neighborhood, the company has put together the Not Your Average Cause program. For every restaurant opening, Not Your Average Joe’s partners with a local nonprofit; the Ellsworth Place location chose American Film Institute Silver (AFI). The pre opening program is set up to have guest donate to the charity instead of paying their bill. The pre opening services took place on Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10. The count was tallied and Silverstein presented a five thousand dollar check to Ray Barry, the Director of AFI and Matt Boratenski, Program Administrator for Education.

AFI is a nonprofit cinema arts organization, and icon in the Silver Spring community. Their groundbreaking film education program, which promotes visual literacy, has already served more than 100,000 area students. Boratenski spoke about the overall goal on education at AFI, “Our job is to try to make them (children) question what they’re seeing, also to get them to read and write what they’re viewing and to also get them to connect with the other literacy’s.”
