Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Downtown Silver Spring

Police are investigating an incident in downtown Silver Spring, where a pedestrian was fatally struck. The driver remained at the scene.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A man was fatally struck by an SUV in downtown Silver Spring Tuesday night, according to Montgomery County police.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the 9500 block of Georgia Avenue, near Flora Lane. Police officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the location for the report of a pedestrian collision.

The driver of a gray 2020 Honda CR-V was traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue when he struck an adult male who was in the roadway near Flora Lane. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene, police said.

Initially, there were reports that a second vehicle may have hit the pedestrian, but police said they did not find evidence of a second vehicle.

Officers located the adult male pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the man will be released following notification of his next of kin, police said.

The fatality is the first pedestrian death in Montgomery County in 2024. In 2023, 15 pedestrians were killed in crashes in the county, MoCo360 reported Wednesday.
