Silver Spring Man Dies After Truck Strikes Car On Beltway
A Silver Spring man died after he was struck by a box truck on the Beltway in Prince George's County, Maryland State Police said.

NEW CARROLLTON, MD — A Silver Spring man died after his car was hit by a box truck on the Beltway in Prince George's County early Saturday morning, Maryland State Police said.
The victim has been identified as Kwesi Kwaasi, 37.
Police said Kwaasi was driving a 2006 Acura TL on the inner loop in New Carrollton when he changed lanes in front of a driver in a 2015 Freightliner box truck at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

The driver of the box truck—identified as Christopher Simpson, 27, of Suitland—struck the rear of the Acura, police said. Two lanes were closed for about three hours because of the crash.
Kwaasi died at the scene, while Simpson was not injured, police said.

Maryland State Police said: "The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but it seems that failure to give full time and attention, unsafe lane change and failure to yield the right of way were contributing factors in this collision."
There was no indication of alcohol on either driver, police said.
