Silver Spring 'Save The Post Office' Rally Planned
The Silver Spring post office will be the site of a rally Saturday against changes to the U.S. Postal Service.

SILVER SPRING, MD — People in Silver Spring will join thousands of citizens across the country who are staging protests in support of the U.S. Postal Service.
It comes after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy unveiled sweeping, cost-cutting changes at USPS, including removing mail-sorting machines from postal facilities and eliminating employee overtime.
The rally in Silver Spring is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday outside the Silver Spring Post Office (940 Thayer Ave.).

Activists are calling for the removal of DeJoy as postmaster general and an end to what they say is attempted voter suppression.
DeJoy issued a statement earlier this week that he would back off changes he implemented to avoid "even the appearance of any impact on election mail."

Organized by MoveOn.org and a number of other advocacy groups, the national protests have been dubbed #SaveThePostOffice Saturday.
In the interest of public health, all rallies will take place outside.
Participants in Silver Spring are asked to wear face coverings, stay six feet apart, and bring a sign. The event is scheduled to end at noon.
