Silver Spring Shooting Leads To Catholic University Lockdown (UPDATES)
UPDATES: Shooting suspects led police on a chase from Silver Spring to Catholic University early Wednesday morning, police said.

(Updated at 3:54 p.m. Wednesday) SILVER SPRING, MD — Armed shooting suspects led police on a chase from Silver Spring to Catholic University early Wednesday morning, injuring one man and causing the university to go on lockdown, police said.
One of the shooting suspects has been arrested, police said. Marlow Jenard Johnson, 25, of an unconfirmed address was arrested for shooting and fleeing from an officer, police said. Police know the identity of the second suspect and are working to get an arrest warrant for him.
The incident started at about 1:30 a.m. when a mother and daughter were robbed at 9317 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring while on their way home from work.

Detectives said the 51-year-old son was in one vehicle and the 53-year-old daughter and 77-year-old mother were in another vehicle. They were returning from a Washington, D.C. convenience store that they own, police said.
When the mother and daughter exited the car, they were confronted by the two suspects, both armed with handguns. The son tried to intervene during the robbery and was shot in the leg, police said. He has since been released from the hospital. The suspects stole the victims' purses—which contained cash proceeds from the business and personal property—and fled in their black Nissan Sentra, police said.

D.C. police officers later spotted the suspects' car in the area of Eastern Avenue in D.C. at about 1:50 a.m. and tried to stop the driver. The driver did not stop and a chase ensued. During the chase, the car crashed across from Catholic University near Taylor St. NE. Both suspects fled from the car on foot, police said.
The campus was then placed on lockdown and students were asked to shelter in place while police searched for the suspects:

The lockdown was lifted at about 3:30 a.m.
Detectives believe the suspects targeted the victims because they knew the victims own a business, police said. Johnson will be charged with three counts of armed robbery and three counts of first-degree assault by the Montgomery County Police Department via an arrest warrant, police said.
Anyone who has information about this robbery is asked to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
