Teen Driver Fleeing Police Hits 2 Vehicles, Multiple People Hurt: Authorities

The 19-year-old had been attempting to race on an interstate before the police pursuit, authorities said.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Multiple people were injured after a teen driver from Maryland who had been attempting to race on Interstate 395 crashed into multiple vehicles while fleeing Virginia State Police, authorities said.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, troopers were alerted to two vehicles trying to race on the southbound interstate in Fairfax County, according to police. Authorities tried to stop the vehicles but they refused, with one exiting at Edsall Road and the second — a Toyota Camry driven by 19-year-old Silver Spring resident Kennedy W. Mejia Medina — fleeing south on I-395 with police in pursuit, law enforcement said.

Mejia Medina tried to drive between two other southbound vehicles and collided with both, causing the two to crash near Edsall Road while the Camry continued for a short distance before coming to a stop, according to police.
