Arlington Emphasizing Pedestrian Safety With Police Initiatives

Two initiatives were launched by the police at the start of August.

ARLINGTON, MA — The police department is currently executing two simultaneous traffic safety campaigns throughout the town with the goal of enhancing pedestrian and bicycle safety.

The Summer Impaired Driving Campaign is described as a high-visibility enforcement initiative in which patrols were increased and emphasized in reducing injuries and deaths caused by impaired drivers.

The Pedestrian and Bicyclist Enforcement Campaign places a focus on popular cross walks and school zones.

“Our objective is to safeguard all road users by discouraging reckless driving behaviors and protecting vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists,” the department said in a statement. “As summer comes to a close and students prepare to return to school, we urge everyone to do their part—drive sober, slow down in crosswalks, and remain alert behind the wheel.”

Both campaigns will take place through Monday, Sept. 15.
