Arlington Installs Signs To Enforce Town-wide Speed Limit
The signs can now be seen on a number of roadways.
ARLINGTON, MA — The town announced that signage will be implemented throughout its streets to emphasize its 25-mile-per-hour speed limit.
Arlington technically adopted the townwide regulation in 2017, however many of its roads remained under special state speed regulations. The town has recently gotten approval from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to have the SSR streets reclassified by the town’s speed limit.
Yellow signs that read “thickly settled district: 25 mph” were recently installed in multiple locations throughout Arlington. Town Manager Jim Feeney expressed gratitude to MassDOT for honoring his requests to have the changes made.

“By lowering the default speed limit to 25 MPH townwide and adding Safety Zones in select areas, we hope to reduce vehicle speeds, create a more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly environment, and encourage safer driving practices,” Feeney said.
Route Two is the only roadway that the speed limit does not apply to.
