ARLINGTON, MA — The Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries donation center at the Ed Burns Arena and Skating Rink on 422 Summer St. has officially closed, the town announced this week.

Goodwill has operated a donation center in Arlington since 1958. Stop and Shop on 905 Massachusetts Ave. was the previous steward of the center until it oved to Ed Burns Arena earlier this year. Goodwill collects more than 28 million pounds of donations across Massachusetts annually. The organization accepts clothing, textiles, shoes, accessories, books, small working appliances, household items, small furniture, antiques, and collectibles. The nonprofit’s leadership said that its presence in Arlington is crucial for both itself and the town, and that it will now try to find a new place to set up shop.

“Arlington is a valued partner in Goodwill’s mission,” President and CEO of Morgan Memorial Goodwill Joanne Hilferty said. “Every donation makes it possible for us to create new lives, providing job training, career services, and opportunities for individuals with barriers to work. Last year, Arlington residents donated more than 2 million pounds of items, and those contributions supported families who rely on Goodwill to stretch their dollars.”
