ARLINGTON, MA — The police department is warning residents against a telephone scam in which the perpetrators are pretending to be local immigration authorities.

The department testified to receiving multiple reports from community members receiving calls that appear as though they are coming from the town’s non-emergency phone number. The callers are pretending to be members of Arlington police in order to obtain personal and financial information from residents.

Police emphasized that no branch of its department would call community members to ask for personal information or payment, and that if the call seems suspicious residents should hang up immediately.
