Algae Breakout In Arlington: Pond Dealing With Dangerous Presence
The Arlington Health Department is advising the community to avoid the body of water.

ARLINGTON, MA — The town’s Health Department is advising residents to avoid Hill’s Pond due to a dangerous level of blue-green algae.
Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, produces toxins that are a health risk to both people and animals. If exposed, people can experience skin and eye irritation, as well as respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses. Symptoms of exposure include vomiting, drooling, and seizures. It can also be dangerous to pets, such as dogs.
Hill’s Pond is located at Menotomy Rocks Park on Jason Street. While the pond is technically not closed, the department recommends not standing, swimming, or getting too close to the pond until further notice.
