Arlington School Committee To Hear From Candidate Pool

The committee is looking for its seventh member after a seat opened up earlier this year.

ARLINGTON, MA — The school committee is set to hear from 11 candidates vying for its open seat during its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18. At 6:30 p.m.

The opening came about when member Jane P. Morgan was appointed to fill a position on the Select Board on an interim basis last month. The Select Board spot opened up after Lenard Diggins and his family moved to neighboring Somerville.

The candidates will each get an opportunity to speak for five minutes, and will be asked questions by committee members following their short presentations. The candidates include residents Alham Saadat, Valentina Di Blasi, Jeff Miller, Caitie Peterson, Mary Pat Lancelotta, Dmitry Vasilyev, Crystal Haynes Copithorne, Justin Harris, Katharine Conn, Heather Leet, and Barbara Owens.

The interim School Committee member would serve until Arlington’s annual election next April. The Committee did not specify if the new member would be appointed before the meeting’s conclusion.
