Arlington Unveils Brand New High School
The multi-million dollar project came to fruition this week after a six-year process.
ARLINGTON, MA — The town cut the ribbon on its brand-new high school on 869 Massachusetts Ave. with an official unveiling ceremony this week.
The new 108,000 facility will hold approximately 1,700 students and educate young community members for what the town hopes will be multiple future generations. The project began back in 2019 when residents voted to approve the $290.4 million budget for the new building. According to the town, the project is slated to finish approximately $450,000.
Town, school, and state officials headlined the attendance of the launch event on Saturday, Oct. 25. After the unveiling, the school was open for a public open house and saw 1,000 visitors experience the new facility for themselves. The energy-efficient building is equipped with fossil fuel-free mechanical systems and rooftop and canopy solar arrays.

“Our project partners really delivered. We came in on time and under budget, which is no small feat on such a complex project where construction coincided with a global pandemic,” Town Manager Jim Feeney said. “What may have seemed like a pipe dream a decade ago, this all-electric building is now a model in sustainability for the Arlington community and beyond, demonstrating, again that when the community comes together for a common cause it can reshape the future of the Town for the better.”
The new building will also now be the home for the Menotomy Preschool and Arlington Community Education Center. The town thanked Massachusetts School Building Authority, project manager Skanska USA, designer HMFH Architects, and construction manager Consigli USA for their roles in the construction of the school.
