2 Teen Suspects Identified After Brockton Courthouse Shooting

Two 18-year-olds are facing multiple weapons charges after a Monday shooting in which a man and a woman were injured.

BROCKTON, MA — Brockton police have identified the two 18-year-olds charged in connection with a shooting that injured two people behind the Brockton District Court on Main Street Monday afternoon, authorities told Patch.

Antwon Barrett-Smith and Neandro Mendes are facing multiple weapons charges in connection with the shooting, during which a 19-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman sustained injuries that are not life threatening, police said.

Detectives have recovered two guns in the case, according to police.

Following Monday's shooting, there was a stay-in-place for those who work or live in the immediate area, including City Hall, Brockton Public School Central building, the Board of Health building, and the War Memorial, according to police.

But later that day, police told Patch that they "would like to assure the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety."

"This incident appears to be an isolated event, and we are diligently working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting," police said Monday.
