• Eastern-HarborOne Merger Leads to Layoffs (bankerandtradesman.com) — Dozens of jobs are being cut at HarborOne’s former headquarters on Oak Street Extension in Brockton after its purchase by Eastern Bank, with 75 employees slated for layoffs between February 21 and May 31. Eastern plans to keep using the Brockton building while closing overlapping branches elsewhere as it seeks major cost savings from the merger and responds to pressure from an activist investor.
   

• Man charged with fatal Nov. 11 shooting in Rockland (bostonglobe.com) — Brockton police arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a November 11 shooting that left a 29-year-old Rockland man dead in a parked car. Investigators say witnesses described a thin man fleeing the Rockland scene before an arrest warrant was issued; the defendant is due back in court on January 9.
   

• Bill Hess to Retire After 48 Years in Radio at WMAL (radio-online.com) — Longtime radio programmer Bill Hess is retiring from Washington, DC’s WMAL-FM after a 48-year career that once included a key stop in Brockton at WBET-AM and WCAV-FM. His Brockton years helped launch him into major programming roles, showing how local stations can shape influential national media careers.
