Here are five outstanding volunteer organizations in the Brockton area.

1. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South serves youth between the ages of 5-18 across Southeastern Massachusetts. The organization is comprised of four location, including the Brockton Clubhouse on Warren Avenue. Volunteers can become a mentor or lead specific activities, like art, music or homework. 2. Brockton Adult Learning Center: The Brockton Adult Learning Center provides education to adults looking to improve their English language and/or literacy skills. Volunteers aged 18+ are wanted to tutor adult students in reading, writing, math, conversational English and/or citizenship preparation. Learn more at bpsma.org/schools/adult-learning-center.

3. Old Colony YMCA: The Old Colony YMCA supports local youth through a variety of enrichment and wellness programs and services. Those looking to volunteer on an ongoing basis can join as a one-on-one or site-based mentor, while those looking for one-off experiences can participate in camp cleanup days and other small projects. 4. The Arc of Greater Brockton: This organization serves disabled children and adults across the greater Brockton area, and accepts volunteers for both one-time and ongoing opportunities. You can work with children during recreation and vacation activities, teach or assist during arts and crafts, serve on the Human Rights Committee or participate in fundraising initiatives. 5. BAMSI: BAMSI provides opportunities for individuals with mental health challenges, behavioral health challenges and developmental disabilities. Multiple direct contact volunteer opportunities are available, though the organization’s most popular is assisting with food sorting and distribution for its monthly Brown Bag program.
