Brockton in COVID 'Yellow' Zone After 5 Months of Being High Risk
The city entered the high-risk zone on October 7, after being at moderate risk for the virus for 5 weeks.
BROCKTON, MA— After being considered high-risk for the Coronavirus, Brockton is now in the 'yellow' zone, making the city back at moderate risk for the first time since October. Brockton averaged about 25 new COVID cases per day per 100,000 residents in February.
This puts the city well above the guidelines for the red zone- 10 cases per day per 100,000 people- but the risk assessment also takes a positive test rate into account. Over the past few weeks, only about 4 percent of Brockton residents tested for the virus were found to be positive, making them eligible to be considered moderate risk.
Dr. Richard Herman, Brockton's pandemic consultant and former chief of emergency medicine says "I would say it certainly encouraging that Brockton is in the yellow again. It means we are moving in the right direction."
