Brockton High To Dedicate Victor M. Ortiz Basketball Court Friday
Ceremony to dedicate the court in honor of longtime Brockton High boys coach will be Friday night at about 6:50 before the Boxers' game.
BROCKTON, MA —Brockton High School will dedicate its basketball court in the name of a Hall of Fame coach who won 384 games in 24 years leading the Boxers Friday night. The community is invited to the pre-game ceremony to dedicate the Victor M. Ortiz Basketball Court in honor of the longtime coach and school guidance counselor.
The public is invited to arrive at 6:30 for the 6:50 ceremony before the 7 p.m. tip of the boys varsity basketball game.
Ortiz worked in the Brockton Public Schools from 1976 to 2007 as a counselor. He became the JV boys coach in 1976 before moving up to the varsity post in 1983. He then won 71 percent of his games coached over 24 years prior to his retirement in 2007.

Ortiz is a member of the Brockton High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the Massachusetts High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and the New England Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
