Brockton Mayoral Candidates To Face Off In Forum

Candidates Jimmy Pereira and Robert Sullivan will participate in the Brockton mayoral candidate forum this week.

BROCKTON, MA — Mayoral candidates Jimmy Pereira and Robert Sullivan will face off in a candidates' forum on Wednesday. The forum will be open to the public and free to attend. It's taking place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The forum is a chance to learn about the vision and goals that the candidates have for the city, according to the event's organizers. It is being presented by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Brockton Democrats City Committee, Mass Vote, Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition and Women's Pipeline for Change.

Both Sullivan and Pereira were born and raised in Brockton.

Pereira works as a transportation planner. If elected, he would like to address income inequality, homelessness, health disparities, gun violence and education, according to his campaign website. A priority would be to empower troubled youth, it states.

Sullivan is an attorney and serves as Brockton City Council president. He also is a board member for Good Samaritan Medical Center. If elected, he would like to address challenges that impactthe neighborhoods, the environment, senior citizens, schools and city finances, his campaign website states.

The mayoral candidates' forum is taking place at the Brockton War Memorial, at 156 West Elm St. It will be moderated by Crystal Haynes of Boston 25 News.

The election will take place Nov. 5.
