Brockton Murder Suspect Found With Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound: DA

BROCKTON, MA — A 29-year-old Brockton man suspected of fatally shooting a Norwich woman was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Plymouth County District Attorney said Saturday.

Authorities on Friday charged Gelson Fernandez, 29, with homicide in connection with the death of 22-year-old Stephanie Beatty of Norwich.

According to authorities, Beatty was found in a parked car on Nason Street shortly after 12:20 a.m. Friday. Authorities said Beatty suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz did not say where Fernandez was found. According to Cruz, he was taken to a hospital for treatment. The severity of his injuries was unknown.

According to authorities, Beatty and Cruz knew each other. A motive for the killing remains unclear.
