My name is Carlos Da Silva. I am a candidate for Plymouth County Commissioner, and I humbly ask you for your support.
As a member of the Democratic State Committee, and former chair of the Democratic Committees in Quincy and Hingham, I have worked tirelessly to elect candidates who share our common values. It has been an honor to fight for our party for over 30 years.
I am a proud public servant. Professionally, I am a State Auditor with the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. I have worked in this capacity for 12 years, and I am also the Union Representative. Additionally, I serve on the Hingham School Committee, where I was elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2019. During my time on the Hingham School Committee, I have gained an immense amount of knowledge about the need to secure funding for our community. I have been able to work with a wide variety of stakeholders and pride myself in always seeking to unite people for a common purpose.
I live in Hingham, with my wife of over 30 years, Rita DaSilva., We are the proud parents of two young sons we adopted from Brazil. My wife is also a public servant and was elected to the Hingham Planning Board in 2020.
I am running for Plymouth County Commissioner to bring my 30 years of expertise in Massachusetts politics to work for Plymouth County. When I am elected, I will do the following:
1) Create a Plymouth County Climate Action Taskforce. Climate Change and Environmental protection are cornerstone issues with significant impact on every community, county, state, and nation on Earth. This taskforce will be dedicated to working directly with our communities in building our efforts to reduce our local carbon footprint, to increase community stationarity and investment in renewable energy, and to preserve green spaces throughout Plymouth County, including the County Wood Lot-Land in Plymouth and County Farm.
2) Youth Engagement thoughts on an Internship Program:
The young people of Plymouth County are actively seeking opportunities to participate in civic engagement. By partnering with local chambers of commerce, businesses, and higher educational institutions, interns will help research and submit grant applications, enhance constituent services, and gain helpful job skills that are much needed in today's competitive job market.
3) Increase transparency and engagement:
The Commissioners should establish (and publicize) a yearly calendar of all meetings, so all citizens know these meetings' date, time, and location. All sessions should be video recorded. These meeting recordings should be made available online and for cable broadcasting throughout all 27 communities in Plymouth County.
