2 Injured, 2 In Custody After Shooting Behind Brockton Courthouse

A shooting occurred behind the Brockton District Court on Main Street Monday afternoon, police told Patch Monday afternoon.

BROCKTON, MA — Two people are injured and two people are in police custody after a shooting behind the Brockton District Court on Main Street Monday afternoon, Brockton police told Patch.

According to police, the two victims are one female with injuries that are not life threatening and one male whose condition is still being assessed.

Two people are in police custody and a gun has been recovered, police added.

Following the shooting, there was a stay-in-place for those who work or live in the immediate area, including City Hall, Brockton Public School Central building, the Board of Health building, and the War Memorial, according to police. The stay-in-place was done out of an abundance of caution and has since been lifted, police added.

"The Brockton Police Department would like to assure the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety," police said in a statement shared with Patch. "This incident appears to be an isolated event, and we are diligently working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting."

Police added that the shooting is under investigation and anyone with information is being asked to reach out to the Brockton Police Department.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Commuter Rail said in a tweet just after 1:30 p.m. that Middleborough Line passengers were experiencing severe delays in both directions due to police activity in Brockton and train traffic was temporarily suspended in the area.

In an update at 2:07 p.m., officials said that normal train service had resumed on the Middleborough Line but passengers may still experience residual delays in both directions.
