The gift joins donations to several Boston-area nonprofits focused on homelessness, hunger, and food insecurity, aiming to support vulnerable families across Greater Boston during the holiday season.
   

2. Owner of dog saved by West Bridgewater cop to be arraigned Dec. 23 (enterprisenews.com) — A severely malnourished puppy rescued during a West Bridgewater traffic stop is now recovering at a Brockton animal shelter with a new name, Sprout. Her former owner from Taunton faces a felony animal cruelty charge and is scheduled for arraignment Dec. 23 in Brockton District Court.
   

3. Brockton woman, 70, accused of stealing nearly $1M U.S. Treasury check (enterprisenews.com) — A 70-year-old Brockton woman has been charged in federal court with allegedly trying to deposit a nearly $932,000 U.S. Treasury tax refund check meant for a New York home health-care company. Prosecutors say she incorporated a Massachusetts business using the company’s name, opened a bank account, and attempted the deposit before the bank rejected it and closed the account.
   

4. Needham History: Giovanni Castano (needhamlocal.org) — A celebrated painter who grew up in Brockton went on to become a prominent Needham-based artist and gallery owner, known for New England landscapes. His work often depicted his childhood town of Brockton, and the Needham History Center now showcases several of his garden scenes, including a newly donated Christmas-themed ceramic plaque.
