Taunton man charged with animal cruelty after emaciated puppy allegedly found in car (boston.com) — A Brockton-area animal shelter is caring for a severely underweight puppy now recovering at the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts in Brockton after police found her during a traffic stop. A Taunton man has been charged with animal cruelty, and investigators say the case remains open while the shelter raises funds for the dog’s ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation.

Abington apartment fire kills 3 pets, displaces 5 residents (wcvb.com) — Brockton firefighters were among several area departments that rushed to help battle a serious apartment fire in nearby Abington that killed three pets and displaced five residents. The building was declared uninhabitable, the Red Cross is assisting those affected, and investigators say the blaze appears accidental while the exact cause remains under review.
