Robert Sullivan Elected Mayor Of Brockton

Brockton's new mayor will be Robert Sullivan, who won the mayoral election after competing against Jimmy Pereira.

BROCKTON, MA — City Councilor Robert Sullivan has been elected new mayor for the city of Brockton. During Tuesday's election, Sullivan garnered 9,794 votes, while his competitor Jimmy Pereira got 6,854 votes, Enterprise News reported Tuesday night.

Sullivan is set to replace current Mayor Moises Rodrigues, who had been appointed to the position in a special vote by the City Council after the death of former Mayor Bill Carpenter.

Sullivan is a 14-year Brockton city councilor, who currently is serving as councilor at-large. Before the election, he said he supports economic development and ensuring a more inclusive culture in the city. He also pointed to his experience working with city budgets, negotiating collective bargaining agreements and having endorsements of public safety unions.

During a candidates' forum last week, both Sullivan and Pereira said they would like to implement changes that would bring police and community members closer together, through initiatives such as community policing and more face-to-face interactions between the officers the diversity of people that they serve.

Sullivan, an attorney, was born and raised in Brockton. He has a law degree from New England School of Law and an MBA from Boston College.

Before the election, he said he would have an open door policy with constituents, with communication based on inclusiveness and respect.
