South Shore Bank Brings Brockton High to Atlantic Symphony Orchestra
South Shore Bank proudly supports a Night at the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra for students
South Shore Bank proudly supported a Night at the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra for students from the Brockton High School Music and Performing Arts Programs. Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, a professional regional orchestra located on Boston’s South Shore — recognized as among the most artistically regarded in New England — held its Masterworks Classical performance with more than 70 Brockton music and performing arts students as guests of honor at the Thayer Academy Center for the Arts. The goal of this partnership is to provide underserved students with arts and cultural experiences that will motivate and inspire them in the pursuit of their dreams.
“We are a cultural resource for all residents — and strive to serve all schools and all students with access to high quality professional arts,” said Atlantic Symphony Orchestra CEO Karen Thompson. “Our musicians are role models for the students, who can see themselves in these professionals and realize a classical music career as attainable. In turn, our performers draw inspiration from the students and it’s a very powerful and beautiful connection.”
Brockton High School has an acclaimed music program comprised of dedicated students who are passionate about music and spend countless hours practicing their craft. Michael Smith, District Director of Music at Brockton Public Schools, stresses the importance of pursuing arts opportunities outside the city, so the students gain heightened appreciation for classical music and a future in the performing arts industry. More importantly, it’s about the positive impact on the education and future for these young people.
“Music is far too often considered the dessert of a child’s education, but it’s actually a key nutrient,” said Smith. “While some kids find themselves in books, many others find themselves in the arts. It’s a critical component to their growth, ability to succeed at school, and their future. We are grateful to Atlantic City Orchestra and South Shore Bank for providing this opportunity for our students.”
“We are proud to support this initiative and help create new experiences for Brockton youth,” said South Shore Bank Chief Marketing Officer Jane Bowman, which sponsored the event. “To be in the audience with these students who are committed to their own artistic pursuits and to see them engage with the musicians was wonderful. We’re proud that South Shore bank was able to support and be part of this new partnership between Brockton Public Schools and Atlantic Symphony Orchestra.”
