Two Arrested In Virginia After Fatal Brockton Shooting

A Brockton man is facing a murder charge after he and a woman from Rhode Island fled the state following a deadly shooting, police say.

BROCKTON, MA — Two people were arrested in Virginia Wednesday after police say they were seen fleeing the scene of a deadly shooting in Brockton Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded to multiple reports of a shooting on East Street in Brockton around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday to find a man suffering from what police called a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The man, identified as Brima Koroma, 24, of Boston, was taken to Brockton Hospital where he did not survive his injuries, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said.

Police reported seeing a blue car driving south on East Street while responding to the scene and issued a warrant for the car and the two people seen inside it during their investigation.

On Wednesday around 12 p.m., Virginia State Police stopped a car in Chesterfield that they say matched the description of the suspect car in Brockton.

Once they pulled over the car, police arrested Brendan Fernandes, 33, of Brockton, and Destiny Fontes Silie, 25, of Warwick, Rhode Island.

Fernandes will be charged with murder and Silie will be charged with accessory after the fact of murder when they return to Massachusetts after a rendition process in Virginia, the district attorney's office said.
