Freshmen Scholarships at UMass Boston

The following was sent with the photo to the right by UMass Boston.

The University of Massachusetts Boston recently honored 71 freshmen who won the inaugural Boston City Scholarships, funded through a partnership between UMass Boston, the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, and Mayor Thomas Menino’s office. The scholarships can be worth up to $4,000 over four years for students who maintain a 3.0 grade-point average. Three of the scholarship winners are from Allston/Brighton. Local graduates enroll at Colgate University

  • Alexander Jakob Julian a graduate of Buckingham Browne & Nichols in Brookline, MA.
  • Gordon Timmins Santry a graduate of Westminster School in Chestnut Hill, MA.

The class, selected from an applicant pool of almost 7,800 students from 50 states, 127 countries, and the District of Columbia, is one of the strongest and most diverse in Colgate's history.

Colgate University is a highly selective liberal arts institution distinguished by the dedication of its 272 full-time faculty-scholars, and its commitment to undergraduate research, off-campus study programs, and residential education. Colgate offers 52 majors to a diverse student body of 2,900 undergraduate students, and supports 25 Division I athletic teams.
