Brookline Town Meeting Night 6:

BROOKLINE, MA — For the first time in recent memory a fall Special Town Meeting has lasted longer than four nights. Officials say fall Town Meeting, held in November, usually lasts one or two nights and the occasional three. This meeting began in November before the Thanksgiving holiday adjourned and then picked back up in December. During the sixth night of discussion and voting Thursday night, Town Meeting members kicked off with a discussion on racism in town, followed by economic unbalances.

The town passed a proposal to update bylaws to be gender neutral and inclusive.

24. Amend Town's By-laws pertaining to the Commission for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations and Citizen Complaints (Conquest, TMM6)

• Vote: Motion to refer this to the Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations: Fails
• Vote: Motion to refer this to a moderators committee: Fails
• Vote: Passes and will become effective in July 2021

29. Resolution pertaining to an Economic-Equity Advancement Fund (O'Neal, TMM4)

• Vote: substitute motion: fails
• Vote: Main Motion: Passes.

30. Adoption of a new General By-Law pertaining to the establishment of a Brookline Community Engagement Plan (Brown, TMM1,)

• Vote: Motion to refer this to the Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations: fails 71 yes, 82 no, and 3 abstaining.
• Vote: Main motion: passes.

32. Amend the Town's General By-laws to replace "Chairman" and "Chairperson" with "Chair."(Gordon, TMM1, et al)

• Vote: Passes 1 opposed

33. Amend the Town's General By-laws to replace references to "inhabitants" and "citizens" (Gordon)

• Vote: passes unanimously.

34. Amend the Town's General By-laws regarding eligibility for membership on boards, commissions and committees (Gordon)

• Vote: passes unanimously.
