Brookline's Newest Officer Comes From A Familiar Lineage
Ryan Murphy has had multiple relatives serve in the Brookline Police Department.
BROOKLINE, MA — Ryan Murphy became the newest member of the Brookline Police Department after being sworn in earlier this week.
The officer comes from the North Attleboro Police Department, where he served his first year on duty after graduating from a Municipal Police Training Committee-certified academy.
Murphy’s ties to the town and the department go back multiple generations, as his grandfather and multiple aunts and uncles served as officers. His mother worked in administration and as a crossing guard. However, the department said Murphy is not in his current position due to nepotism.

“He (Murphy) earned his place here through his own hard work, dedication, and professionalism,” the department said in a statement. “His family certainly helped shape the person he has become, instilling the values that guide him, but he is standing here today because of the standards he has met, the character he has shown, and the commitment he brings to this profession.”
Murphy graduated from Westfield State University with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
