More Than 12K Brookline Voters Have Already Returned Ballots

BROOKLINE, MA — As of Tuesday night more than half of the Brookline voters who had requested mail in ballots from the secretary of the commonwealth ahead of the Nov. 2 Election Day have voted and returned their ballots.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Secretary of the commonwealth's office had sent out 23,230 mail in ballots to Brookline voters. Of those, 12,261 have already been returned, for a 53 percent return so far, according to Town Administrator Mel Kleckner.
"It appears the Secretary of State's office is very pleased with our number, so far," he said Tuesday night.

The deadline to register to vote is Sat., Oct. 24. You can check your voting status on the Secretary of State's website. The final day to request vote-by mail ballot is Wed. Oct. 28 before 5 p.m. If you've applied and haven't gotten your ballot yet, check with the secretary of the commonwealth's ballot tracker.
Early voting down town hall runs through Oct. 30, and according to at least one voter, it, too, has been going well.

"Seamless," Brookline Select Board member and candidate for Norfolk county commissioner Heather Hamilton said Tuesday. " I have to say I was very impressed with the whole operation."
In September, the town had 38,610 registered voters, of those some 18,885, or 48.9 percent cast ballots during the September presidential primary. During the 2016 presidential election, there were 39,069 registered voters in town and of those, 29,680 cast ballots, or 76 percent, up from 49.3 percent during the primary.
