BROOKLINE, MA — A new children’s bookstore celebrated its opening with an event-filled weekend, according to a report from Brookline News.

Turtle Books was launched at 224 Washington St. in Brookline Village by husband and wife ownership duo Bruce and Cathy Jacobs. They were inspired to open the store with the goal of making young children spend more time reading as opposed to using technology. Saturday and Sunday’s festivities consist of author meeting opportunities, live music, book giveaways and a puppet show.

State Sen. Cynthia Creem and State Rep. Tommy Vitolo attended the grand opening. Speaking to the crowd, both stressed the importance of community engagement and fighting book bans.
