Begun in memory/honor of Donna (Generazio) Hanna, Peter Generazio, Gina Generazio, and Frank Generazio III, the event was established last year as a way to remember each of these family members while contributing to a much needed and worthy cause, research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
“Since the Jimmy Fund’s organized golf program began in 1983, the golf community has been incredibly supportive and has helped to raise more than $100 million for the important efforts of the researchers and clinicians at Dana-Farber,” said Jimmy Fund Gold Director Nancy Rowe.
In its inaugural year, the Generazio Memorial Golf Tournament had a goal of raising $5,000.
Through the generosity of the community, friends, family, volunteers as well as golfers, a final donation of $9,103.01 was made to the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
“When we decided to start the tournament, we went into this wanting to make a long-term annual commitment to a great charity or cause. We also expected that it would take time, perhaps years, before we could really contribute meaningful amounts. We never expected to exceed our goals the way we did in our first year, and it goes to show that when people come together for an important cause and can have fun doing it, nothing is impossible,” said Jason Heggs, tournament director.
The Generazio Memorial Golf Tournament begins at 8 a.m. shotgun format.
Registration begins at 7 a.m.
The banquet/post-golf party is slated to start at 1 p.m.
