Man Allegedly Put Plastic Bag Over Woman's Head: FPD Arrest

The Springfield man allegedly hit one woman and put a plastic bag over another woman's head when he got angry about being robbed.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—A Springfield man is facing several charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon and strangulation, after an alleged violent incident in Framingham Saturday night.

Around 7:21 p.m. on April 7 officers were called to 46C Interfaith Terrace, where it was reported that a "black male is fighting inside the apartment," according to the arrest report. Before police got there, the only details they had were that the man had reportedly put a bag over a victim's face inside of the apartment, and the fight was still going on, according to the report. The suspect had taken off and was headed toward the barber shop on Second Street.

Police got out of their cruiser and talked to the man, later identified as Anthony Baptiste, who said he did nothing wrong and was "just minding his own business," according to police. A woman walked toward Baptiste and screamed, "you know what you did!" and "you punched me two times in my face."

The woman said Baptiste was the one was fighting inside the apartment, and police put him in cuffs to detain him, according to the arrest report.

Baptiste, 41, Langdon Street, Springfield, was arrested at Interfaith Terrace for assault and battery with hands, simple assault and battery strangulation, assault with a dangerous weapon - knife, vandalizing property, threatening to commit a crime.

Baptiste allegedly committed the violence because he was angry he had been robbed earlier that day, according to a report in the MetroWest Daily News. At his arraignment, Baptiste's lawyer argued that the victims, one of whom Baptiste allegedly tried to smother with a plastic bag and punching another, had been the ones who robbed Baptiste earlier.
