5 Things: Christmas in July, Readers' Choice

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Holliston Pantry Shelf: Last week, Holliston Pantry Shelf President, Carl Damigella, Vice-President John Alexander and Treasurer Dave O'Neill accepted a check for $951 from Holliston High School student Sam Scott. Sam and another student, Sara Tajik, organized a 5-mile Walkathon on May 6 to benefit the Pantry. .

2. Host an International Student in Hopkinton: From : Although we have had a strong response for host families for next year's semester, we still have one more student to place. He is a senior from China who enjoys basketball and looks forward to living with a Hopkinton family so he can learn more about American culture. Our current host families have found their lives are being enriched in enormous and sometimes surprising ways. By hosting you'll also be contributing to our school and community. Tuition fees from international students help to support our Mandarin language program at Hopkinton High School. 3. Christmas in July: is having a to bring awareness to the fact that they receive 90% of their monetary donations in December as the Holidays bring cheerful giving - yet they are here 12 months a year and are struggling financially. The admission price of $50 will include Open Bar beer/wine, appetizers and desserts, pictures with Santa (in a Hawaiian shirt of course) and entertainment by local singing artist, Kathleen Regan. There will be a silent auction that will various priced items - jewelry, Red Sox tickets, Celtics tickets, Restaurant Gift certificates, etc.
