5 Things: New School Committee Chairman, FIRST LEGO League
Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. School Committee Changes: Every June the reorganizes their positions. Las night Nancy Burdick was voted in as the chairman of the board. Scott Aghababian took over as assistant chairman. Burdick has served as the chairman previously, but this is Aghababian’s first leadership position on the board.
2. beFREE!: After six years, Sue Hadley and Jane Roche are going to be stepping down from their coordinator positions. The leadership role involves driving the development of the goals and strategies, and overseeing the work of coalition members who manage the individual components. They are both willing to work closely with the new leaders and provide support in any way needed. 3. Lego: Hopkinton Middle School and the HPTA are looking to provide opportunities for students to participate in , an international robotics and science competition. The program requires teams to participate equally in both a robot game and a research project, and requires significant work from participants both at team sessions and at home.

4. Run for the Franciscans: Hopkinton resident and EchoStor CEO, John Dooley, participated in the 5th Annual New Balance Heart Break Hill 5K to benefit Franciscan Hospital for Children on Saturday, June 9th at Boston College. Over 700 friends took part in the event, raising more than $80,000. Donations can still be made at www.franciscanhospital.org/5k
5. Front Street Closure: From the DPW “Starting today, Front Street will be closed for the culvert repair. The street closing will effect Front Street at South Mill St. as well as, Ash Street between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Our intentions are to complete the work in one day. Due to the nature of the repairs, it may require working longer than 7 p.m. but, we will do everything to avoid that. Detour signs will be in place and detail police officers will be there to assist motorists around the site.”
