5 Things: Polling Changes, Run Around Hopkinton

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Local Students Receive Bank Scholarships: The Charitable Foundation, has announced that Beverly Reynolds of Hopkinton and Ryan Mullens of Holliston are among 30 students from public and vocational high schools in the area to receive $1,000 scholarship grants from the foundation. Mullens, who graduated from Holliston High School, will attend the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Reynolds, a graduate of Hopkinton High, will attend Colorado College.

2. Holliston Conservation Openings: The Holliston Conservation Commission, a currently has two openings. If you are a Holliston resident with an interest in wetland and conservation issues, and would like to serve your Town on a volunteer board, then the Commission encourages you to apply for this position; no experience is necessary. The Conservation Commission has the statutory responsibility of protecting Holliston’s natural assets, including Holliston’s wetlands, watershed resources, and conservation lands. 3. Race Around Hopkinton: It seems like there is a race of some sort in Hopkinton nearly every month of the year, and October is no exception. The Hopkinton Runners Club will be putting on their on Oct. 6, The race is for teams of up to 6 and will feature a 26.2 mile course made up of six legs all around the town. Registration is available now though the Hopkinton Relay website.

4. Changes to Patch Polls: How it Works: When you’re signed in, voting works like normal. When you revisit the page still signed in, you still see results. If you clear your cookies or sign in on a different browser, you won’t see results when you visit the page, but when you try to submit a second vote, it won’t count. If you’re not signed in when you click submit on a poll, you’ll be redirected to the Join page on which you can either register for Patch or click on Sign in and sign in with your existing account. Once you finish registered or signing in, your vote is counted.
