Hillers athletes are competing for championships, bloggers are taking about issues and Venus is trying to block out the Sun.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Space Spectacular: Don’t miss . Venus will begin crossing in front of the Sun at 6:04 p.m. here on the East Coast. Be sure to remember not to look directly at the Sun though, you’ll go blind. This phenomenon will not happen again for more than 100 years.
2. Governor’s Council: Have you caught Governor’s Council candidate Patrick McCabe’s blog on Patch? . McCabe has been filling voters in on the importance of the position and some of the major issues.

3. AAU Tournament Champions: in Duxbury over the Memorial Day weekend.
4. Hillers Sports: It’s MIAA tournament time and Hopkinton athletes are in the thick of it. The track all-state meet will be taking place today, as will the girls’ softball game against Coyle & Cassidy High School in the quarterfinals. The boys’ baseball, girls’ tennis and girls lacrosse are all also in the mix this week.

5. The Weather: Can June weather get any worse? Well, it’s actually not as bad as it was forecasted to be this week. We might even get to see the sign on Wednesday.
