Bikes Head Through Hopkinton as Part of Bicycles Battling Cancer Ride

More than 200 cyclists take part in the fourth annual American Cancer Society Bicycles Battling Cancer event on Sunday, June 10. The ride attracts experienced and beginner cyclists from across the area and across New England who participate individually or as a team.

Choosing either the century ride, metric century ride, and 30-mile ride, they start at the Bolton Fairgrounds in Lancaster and roll through Lancaster, Lunenburg, Shirley, Groton, Ayer, Harvard, Bolton, Northborough, Westborough, Southborough, Upton, Hopkinton, Milford, Ashland, Marlborough and Hudson.

There are five aid stations set up for the cyclists, including one at the Westborough Gibbons Middle School at mile 53 and the Hillside School in Marlborough at mile 91.

Funds raised through Bicycles Battling Cancer support the American Cancer Society’s critical mission to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. on June 10 at the Fairgrounds, featuring guest speakers Peg Camp, chief operating officer of the American Cancer Society’s New England Division and Dr. Ron Drapkin, a physician-scientist from Dana Farber Cancer Institute who will take part in the ride.

Riders depart at 9 a.m. The peak rider finish time is between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
