Hopkinton Election Guide 2012

The candidates, incumbents and issues that will be affecting Hopkinton and Middlesex County.

President Barack Obama: The president’s national campaign may not be too prominent in a state that tends to lean toward the left side of the aisle.

GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney: The former governor is well known throughout the state he used to lead and was even reportedly in Boston yesterday.

Carolyn Dykema: The current 8th Middlesex District representative had a strong showing during the town elections in May.

Marty Lamb: Challenging Dykema is something that Lamb is ready for. In early political sparring the two disagreed on a "clean campaign pledge".

4th Congressional District Seat: With the state's redistricting plan Hopkinton is leaving Rep. Jim McGovern's 3rd Congressional District to join the 4th. The seat is being vacated by Barney Frank leaving heavy competition for the seat. Joe Kennedy III leads the Democrats ticket, with   Marty Farren, of Sharon;  On the Republican side Sean Bielat and Elizabeth Childs are both running.

Massachusetts Senate: Scott Brown is up for re-election after a short term replacing the late Ted Kennedy. Brown will be facing off against Democrat challenger Elizabeth Warren.

Ballot: There could be as many as four initiatives on the fall ballot.
