Hopkinton Police Log: Phone Scam, Paintball Shootout

HOPKINTON, MA — Police in Hopkinton responded to a number of calls this weekend for reports of a social security scam, a road rage complaint, a barn with an odor of natural gas and more.
Fraud
- 03/13/2020 - 11:08 a.m. - Main Street: A caller reported a Social Security scam call and confirmed he or she had not given any personal information to scammers. The caller was advised on ways to prevent future fraud.

- 03/13/2020 - 05:20 - Hayden Rowe Street: An officer was flagged down by a driver who said a BB gun pellet had hit his windshield in the area of Grove and Pleasant.

- 03/14/2020 - 3:10 p.m. - Jamie Lane: A 9-1-1 caller reported seeing a suspicious vehicle driving around her neighborhood and interacting with neighborhood children. Officers checked the surrounding neighborhoods but found no car.

- 03/14/2020 - 3:28 p.m. - Cedar Street: A person walked into the police department to report a group of teenagers were seen walking into the state park with kayaks and no life jackets. An officer located the teens on the island and contacted Ashland police.

- 03/14/2020 - 10:06 p.m. - Hayden Rowe Street: A 9-1-1 caller reported a group of people had driven by his house and shot paintballs at his door. Officers responded, spoke with the caller, and determined the house was a random target.
Vehicle Complaint
- 03/15/2020 - 1:25 p.m. - College Street: A 9-1-1 caller reported the driver of a car sped up as he was passing her and almost hit her while she was out walking. The caller got the driver's license plate number. An officer spoke with the driver and advised.

- 03/15/2020 - 2:13 p.m. - Wood Street: A 9-1-1 caller reported a road rage-type complaint and offered the license plate information of the vehicle. An officer spoke with all parties and advised.
Assist Town Department
03/15/2020 - 2:51 p.m. - Hayden Rowe Street: A caller reported an odor of gas in a barn. Officers responded and found the source to be a propane tank. No gas was found in the home.
Vehicle Complaint
03/15/2020 - 6:36 - Park Street: A woman called 9-1-1 to report she was being followed by a vehicle. Officers responded, and the woman headed home.
Assist Town Department
03/15/2020 - 8:34 p.m. - Chestnut Street: A 9-1-1 call came in for a chimney fire. Residents evacuated and responders found embers from the chimney. The chimney was removed, and the fire had not spread to the house.
Suspicious Activity
03/15/2020 - 8:45 p.m. - Trevor Lane: Someone called 9-1-1 to report a suspicious party screaming and walking down the road. Police responded, but no parties were found.
