It was a quick discussion about the 1:1 Laptop Initiative at last night's meeting and the board decided to wait on making a decision. According to Principal Alyson Geary, there are 290 students that are planning on attending HHS as 9th grade students next year. Based on the results from the Laptop Initiative only 75 percent have agreed to lease a laptop through the school or purchase one on their own. 178 students have agreed to lease the computers, 35 will provide their own and 19 have said they will need to use a district-owned laptop. That leaves 58 students that have not responded, enough to swing the percentage over the 80 percent required for the pilot program to be feasible. "We've come this far and a lot of time and energy has been invested," School Committee Chairman Jean Bertschmann said. "Waiting another week doesn't impede our ability to roll this out so I think we should take that time to hear from the other families."  The School Committee has a meeting scheduled for next Thursday, June 14, where they will make a decision based on the additional responses gathered by the school during the next week.
