Seniors Use Art to Deal With Memory Loss
Many people use the arts as a means of self-therapy. Through the Photovoice Project Hopkinton's senior citizens are able to do the same.
As people age their brain functions slowly start to deteriorate. Think of how many times you’ve forgotten something in the past few days.
The Photovoice Project is trying to help make that easier by giving senior citizens an artistic voice.
“The Photovoice Project asks participants to identify and articulate aspects of their lives through photography and then give meaning to those images through words. It is an innovative participatory action research method developed by Caroline Wang and Mary Anne Burris of the University of Michigan, and one of its benefits is the opportunity to share the work of individuals with memory loss,” a press release from the said.

The Photovoice Project was done in Hopkinton with help from .
“This is a wonderful example of the many ways the arts can be used to not only provide enjoyment, but to also help the community,” Kelly Grill, executive director at HCA, said. “It is amazing to see the creativity and beauty that came about through this project, and the pleasure it gives the participants.”

The Photovoice Project will have an opening reception on June 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. where the public is invited to attend and meet the photographers. It will remain open through July 22.
