The $300,000 that was approved two years ago, along with $50,000 from a state grant, has one main porpoise, make the building more efficient.

“The primary use for the money is for the restoration of the windows,” Town Engineer Dave Daltorio said. “After that the money will be used on the roof, the gutters and some brickwork.”

The total project is expected to cost $600,000 when everything is said and done. Daltorio said the current money is expected to get the process up through repairing the roof and gutters.

“Phase two of this project will be something we bring up for the next town meeting, that will be to completely redo all of the exterior brickwork,” he said.

The entire process is made more expensive because everything that is being done to the building has to be done with historic accuracy because the building is listed in the state register of historic places..

“We will be returning all of the trim to its original limestone color and we are have the windows restored which is a six-to-eight week process where the take the windows apart completely,” Daltorio said. “We’re also going to use period gutters, made out of copper.”
