UPDATE with VIDEO: Fire Hits Building on Porter Street in Malden Sunday

Crews from Malden, Chelsea and Everett all battled the blaze.

A fire that ripped through a multi-family home on Porter Street Sunday afternoon may have started on the building’s back porch, fire officials said.

The flames were well involved when initial crews arrived at about 4 p.m. at 58 Porter St., Assistant Fire Chief Jake Colangeli said.

“There was a lot of fire,” Colangeli said.

No one was hurt in the fire; initial reports said someone may have been trapped on the first floor, but crews did not find anyone, Colangeli said. An 11-year-old boy in the neighborhood spotted the fire and called 911, according to the Boston Herald.

Firefighters had to overcome fire hydrant pressure issues to bring enough water to the fire to bring it under control by about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Some flames and heavy smoke still fumed from the top floor and chimney area as numerous on-lookers gathered.

Two ladder trucks were sent to the top of the three floor building, with the most significant fire on the second and third floors, Colangeli said.

The fire appeared to have started on the rear of the building near a porch, Colangeli said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday evening.

Crews from Malden, Everett and Chelsea all battled the blaze.
