Malden Coronavirus Update: Cases Rise To 192
Mayor Gary Christenson has extended the deadline for tax and excise bills as the number of confirmed cases nears 200.
MALDEN, MA — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Malden continues to rise. As of Tuesday, April 7, there were 192 confirmed cases in the city, according to Mayor Gary Christenson.
In an update Tuesday, Christenson advised residents to continue to social distance and wear a mask in public. He issued an executive order pushing the deadlines for real estate taxes and statutory exemption applications from May 1 to June 1. The order also waives interest and other penalties on real estate taxes, excise or water bills incurred after March 10 up until June 30.
Christenson said he is working with the City Council on a plan to assist moderate-to-low-income residents and small businesses, which will be formally submitted at the Council's April 14 meeting. The city's annual Community Development Block Grant will be geared toward those facing housing and food insecurity issues, Christenson said.
