Malden Upgrades Lighting On Lincoln Commons
The city recently added more than 30 new LED lights at the park thanks to a push by City Councilor Chris Simonelli.

MALDEN, MA — Malden’s Lincoln Commons recently got a bit brighter thanks to an effort to add more than 30 new LED light fixtures at the park.
The city announced the addition on Tuesday. The park now has 32 new LED light globes.
Lincoln Commons sits at the intersection of Cross Street and Bryant Street in Malden. Ward 7 City Councilor Chris Simonelli, whose ward includes Lincoln Commons, initiated the project following constituent feedback, as noted in the city’s announcement this week.

“This new initiative will allow Lincoln Commons to become much brighter and safer,” Simonelli said on social media over the weekend. “My goal is to make the residents of Ward 7 feel safe.”
Simonelli thanked personnel with the city of Malden and National Grid for help with this project. He on Tuesday further noted energy cost savings via energy efficient LED technology used in new lights.

Lincoln Commons already had some lighting. These LED upgrades, though, came as part of a larger multi-year beautification program that Simonelli started when he assumed office for his current City Council role, Malden Mayor Gary Christenson told Patch on Wednesday.
The total cost was roughly $14,000, drawing on available Ward 7 improvement funds that accrued over the years, according to Christenson.
