Malden 2023 Election: Gary Christenson Reelected As Mayor

Here are the unofficial results for: Mayor, City Councillor At Large, City Councillor in Wards 1-8, and School Committee in Wards 1-8.

MALDEN, MA — Gary Christenson has been reelected as Malden's mayor for a fourth four-year term, according to the unofficial results of Tuesday's Municipal Election.

Christenson, first elected in 2011, defeated challenger Lissette Aracely Alvarado. With all precincts reporting, and with the results still unofficial, Christenson received 5,530 votes, and Aracely Alvarado got 2,087 votes.

Christenson previously served as a city councillor for Ward 1 and as a member of the Malden School Committee.

After the results were announced, Christenson addressed his supporters at an Election Night rally at Anthony's on Canal Street.

"Some said it was time for a change. Some said it was time for a new leader. Some said it was time to go in a different direction. But it looks like some in this room did not agree," Christenson said in a video of the event posted on Facebook.

Christenson added: "Malden has changed, and we have changed with it. One thing that I know for sure is that our record of results and success, building on Malden's strong past and proud future, is what led us to victory tonight."

According to officials, a total of 7,819 votes were cast.
